Mother In Jail After Allegedly Drowning Her Twin Boys, Trying To Kill A Third Child

This is so sad.

A mother in Avondale, Arizona was arrested Sunday after she allegedly drowned her twin boys in the bathtub of her home.

Mireya Alejandra Lopez tried to kill a third child as well, according to police, but she was stopped by family members before she could complete the act.

Law enforcement officials made a statement about what happened to reporters, saying:

"During the course of the police investigation, suspect Mireya Alejandra Lopez ... stated to police that she intentionally drowned both of her twin boys in the bathtub. Mireya also stated to investigators that she also attempted to drown another child in the home but she was stopped by family and this child did not suffer any injuries."

Lopez, 22, has been charged with two counts of homicide, and another count of attempted homicide.

Avondale police sergeant Brandon Busse was floored at the crime, and set on investigating it further:

"Anytime you lose two small children, it's tough. This situation is not going to be easy ... but we'll work through the case and find out what happened. We're still pretty early in the investigation. We don't have any conclusions at this point."

So sad. Our thoughts are with the loved ones of those little boys, and the rest of the family as they struggle with Lopez's senseless actions.
