The Crazy Story Behind Blake Lively’s REAL Name!

You may know her as Blake Lively–queen of all things domestic and seducer of Ryan Reynolds–but those in B’s family  know her by her birth name, Blake Ellender Brown.

Now, many celebs change their names once they find fame, or even before, but B’s moniker has a rather interesting origin…

As you may know from being a human, when a man and a woman get married, it’s customary for her to take his last name. But, this isn’t always the case. One of my sorority sisters married a man with the last named Schlump (not even a joke) so he wisely took her surname. Smart decision, no? And Jack White, the rocker? White was his ex-wife and bandmate Meg’s name, not his–he was born John Gillis. Tres interesting, no?

And Blake’s dad, born Ernie Brown, took a page from this feminist playbook and took his wife Elaine’s last name of Lively.

But here’s where things get interesting. Lively wasn’t Elaine’s maiden name. It was her first husband’s name!

Yes, Blake’s mom was born Elaine McAlpin and married Ronnie Lively and kept his name once they split up. So while it isn’t so terribly insane for a gentleman to take his lady’s moniker, it is kind of odd that he took her ex’s name, don’t you think?

And the stage name game doesn’t end there. So Ernie Brown goes by Ernie Lively, his wife is Elaine Lively, and now for their kids: Elaine and her first husband had Lori Lively, Ronald Jason Lively, and Robyn Lively. Elaine and Ernie welcomed Eric Brown and Blake Brown, better known as Eric Lively and Blake Lively. WHEW!

Blake may be a simple girl but clearly her name origin is anything but.
