MOPPICON Bill: Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, Ali Mahmood-Balogun deny knowledge of reported rejection
According to reports TNS cannot independently verify at the moment, the Federal Government of Nigeria has rejected the reviewed MOPPICON bill submitted by the committee headed by Peace Anyiam-Osigwe.
The reports allege that the rejection was due to a cover note attached to the review of document proposing that Ali Mahmood-Balogun (the Secretary of Committee) be made head of the Council with Anyiam-Osigwe succeeding him when his tenure ends.
MOPPICON is the acronym for the proposed Motion Pictures Practitioners Council of Nigeria.
Peace Anyiam-Osigwe as well as the Secretary of the committee, Ali Mahmood-Balogun have both denied knowledge of the reported rejection of the reviewed document by the Federal Government.
They also said they knew nothing about the alleged added note proposing that Mahmood-Balogun be made head of the Council upon its establishment.
When TNS reached out to Anyiam-Osigwe, she said, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about.’
Mahmood-Balogun’s also denied the reports. In his words, ‘This is news to me. I am hearing this for the first time. I have not heard anything about the MOPPICON bill for some time now.’
According to a member of the committee who spoke to TNS on condition of anonymity said, ‘I have been hearing rumours too. If the presence of a note is true, that it is very fraudulent.’
We will keep you updated on developments.
